Verification Workflow

Landline Number Verification

Identification Action
If the number is identified as a landline, it cannot receive SMS OTPs. The best way to verify this number is through a voice call.

Mobile Number Verification

Identification Action
If the number is identified as a mobile number, it can receive both SMS and voice calls. Depending on the preferred communication channel, the business can choose to send the OTP via SMS or call.

VoIP Number Verification

Identification Action
If the number is identified as a VoIP number, it is often associated with a higher risk of fraud or bot activity. To ensure the user is legitimate, add an extra validation step, such as a CAPTCHA, before sending the OTP. This helps verify that the request is coming from a real user and not a bot.

Benefits

By integrating number lookup with your verification process, you can optimize the delivery of OTPs, improve security measures, and enhance communication efficiency.

  • Efficient communication: Identifies the best communication channel, ensuring OTPs reach the user effectively.
  • Cost savings: Avoids sending unnecessary messages to inappropriate numbers (e.g., SMS to landlines).
  • Fraud detection: Helps identify and mitigate potential fraudulent activities by recognizing high-risk numbers like VoIP.
  • Improved user experience: Tailors the verification process to suit the user’s number type, enhancing the overall experience.
